Mission
To further the interest, education, and exploration in all aspects of science by facilitating and promoting hands-on experimentation.
History
It all began with the Faulhaber Family Foundation and the family's passion for promoting and furthering the interest, education and exploration of science. The foundation supports many different facets of science exploration, experiementation and education.
In 2006, the Faulhabers started Sarasota Scientific Instruments to facilitate experimentation in the basic sciences for area schools. The non-profit operating foundation supports schools in Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties through the SSI Science Lending Library. The Science Lending Library allows teachers to borrow science equipment for students to conduct hands-on experiments in the classroom. Sarasota Scientific Instruments takes care of delivery, pick-up and maintenance of the equipment. Currently the Science Lending Library serves roughly 13,000 students per year in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Sarasota, and Manatee counties.
In addition, Sarasota Scientific Instruments has provided the following organizations with specialized science equipment on long-term loan, in order to further hands-on experimentation with students both inside and outside the classroom.
Saraosota County School Board - Equipment for Tech Active Classrooms
Sarasota High School (MaST Research Institute) - Equipment for student research
Pine View School - Equipment for student education and experimentation
SCUBAnauts (Tarpon Springs Chapter) - Equipment for scientific research and public education/experimentation
Pinellas Science Center - Equipment for student and public education/experimentation
